SOME STRANGE KIND
2003.

Being not just dance enthusiasts but also dance professionals, people seem to be a very strange species indeed judging by our society’s set of values.

In some countries dancers are highly esteemed representatives of culture, which is the mirror of every society.
In other countries they never even existed or, in order to survive, they found “a proper job” and therefore became extinct.

In Croatia, the already rare specimens of this peculiar species are at the crossroads.
Whether the situation will evolve towards the recognition of these people as being entitled to the same rights as other members of the society and having the possibility to do their job with dignity, or whether this strange species will be forced into extinction, depends on the good will and the cultural politics of the authorities.

I wonder whether a dancer and a choreographer will really become only a rare museum exhibits bearing witness to a species that fought for survival.
